749 was bought to replace VR's on routes like Essex route 348 from Romford to Lakeside Shopping Centre. Here the newly repainted 749 prepares to head back to Romford

749 was often used on routes which were allocated and indeed needed double deckers however when the deckers were indisposed (which was quite often) Leyland Nationals were often used in place and this is a classic example.

As seen above 749 was often used on double deck routes however this shot from. Clements Road, Ilford shows 749 on the busy 123 in June 1996 and seeing as it didn't even have a blind one could say it was extreamly rare

The 252 was a double deck route that 749 worked on a regular basis throughout its life at Capital Citybus. A typical shot from 1996 sees 749 heading towards Hornchurch.

The 396 was a route that should have been worked by Optare Excels however they were very unreliable so once again its 749 to the rescue .
